Río Gallegos is the capital of the Province of Santa Cruz, in Patagonia. Río Gallegos is the most important urban complex (with 180 000 inhabitants) of a province characterized by small towns.

Main achievements

Creation of "The Orchestra of Districts" in the Provincial Music Academy of the Province of Santa Cruz. It was created in 2005 as a part of the Social National Program of Orchestras for children and teenagers set up by the Undersecretary of State for Culture.

The Orchestra is conducted by professor Mariano Mosso. It is the first embryonic symphony orchestra in this province. It participated in the Biennial Event for Young People's Orchestras which took place in October 2008, and gave a joint concert with the Orchestra of Young People of the Republic of Chile.

"The Orchestra of Districts" includes three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. It first worked in Belgrano district. It now also works in three other districts: Le Carmen district, Evita district and San Benito district. At present, 130 children and teenagers belong to "The Orchestra of Districts ".
